I don't know about "spy" - but we do know that IBM had someone assigned to watch AMIPP during the Waltz fiasco and afterwards.

If you were an IBM employee, you may be reticent about posting on AMIPP if you had had to register your identity. We know that IBM are vindictive and if they are able to trace back any negative comments on AMIPP to an employee, then that employee's career could well be at an end.

As Admin1 says, no security is perfect - all it can do it to make it increasingly difficult to break. I think that requiring people to register just makes it that much less secure. If the replacement for AMIPP is to be vibrant, informative, relevant and useful, then people need to feel secure there - otherwise it just becomes another boring old talking-shop for retirees.
