I believe Brian's suspicions are probably well justified. When working for IBM Brian held more senior management positions than most of us, so has a good idea of the way the company works (or used to work). When we held the statutory union elections the company went to quite extraordinary lengths to persuade us to vote the way they wanted - and they were successful in this objective.
