Who cares? Is Grumpy Guts your real name? The post seems to me to hold up a mirror for all IBMers to look into. It seems to me to be a near perfect mirror.
One highly feted employee I knew with impeccable IBM credentials left after illness in the 90's. No one could have been more committed. He had been a legend.
Strangely, in our eyes, for some considerable time thereafter he stayed away from IBM and his longstanding colleagues - both IBM employees and retirees. Finally some five years later contact was established with him. "How are you?" he was asked. "Just beginning to get over the nightmare." he replied. I didn't understand it at the time but it made me think for the first time from first principles.
You'll be pleased to know that he found himself again and can now just about talk about it.
