Thanks for adding the detail, George.
The phrase "unfair to penalise existing pensioners" suggests that there was once a suggestion of taking away already earned benefit.
But the outcome doesn't do that, and I think it would have been very difficult for the company to do. Maybe the suggestion was just a stance in negotiating with the union.
