Of course, there is a difference between what IBM US did and what many UK companies (including IBM UK) have been doing.
IBM US changed the pension plans of existing employees. That's why the case was brought as a class action involving a very large number of existing employees.
Most UK companies have 'merely' closed existing plans to new members and opened new plans for them instead. Thus existing members can only complain if the manner in which this is done leaves them in a worse position - which is the basis of the complaints against the IBM Trustee currently before the Pensions Ombudsman (including mine of course).
