The situation is that the Occupational Pensions Ombudsman
is now examining the material which has been submitted. On the
27th September there were 35 people who had written to
OPAS. The number has increased since then.
We cannot take any active steps until we have the Ombudsman
ruling and IBM' response to it. At the moment we do not
know when he will make his ruling.
The steps we are taking are to analyse the information we
have, present this on the website, encourage people to
write to OPAS and/or their MPs with their own concerns. We
are also organising ourselves so that, should it be
necessary, we can quickly form an 'Association of C-Planners'
(this is the reason why we are asking people to register on the
website).
Until we know the Ombudsman's decision, we do not know the
'scale' of the problem ahead of us. Once we know this, then
we may (or possibly may not!) need to hold an inaugural meeting
and/or set of regional meetings to form an association and to plan
the actions that are required. Until that time we encourage you
to use the Message Board to discuss the issues involved.
I am hoping to put up some preliminary extracts from the Trust
Deeds on the website and also to broadcast an email 'newsletter'
to the group membership within 48 hours.
: .... I think more people will be encouraged to act if the
kind of information I want is provided.
Please let us know the kind of information you want provided. If it
is available, I will put it up. If you have any yourself which you
want published, please send it to me.
: .. rang me at home and chatted for about half an hour. ...
Although it would not be right to divulge the name of the
trustee you contacted, it would be good to know the 'gist' of
your conversation, either via this Message Board or privately
via email if you prefer.
