I guess most viewers of this site would regard it as axiomatic that the best outcome
would be an Ombudsman ruling "in our favour". There are alternative
points of view.
Anybody who has read George Monbiot's "Captive State", ISBN 333 90164 9, would
not be surprised by an outcome that suggests Armonk can do almost anything it
likes with the fund.
Such an outcome could have a good potential. Just as the Maxwell affair was bad
for some pensioners, but ultimately beneficial to many more because it changed the law,
so (in a very much smaller way) this skirmish with IBM could serve to awaken a
part of the community (at least viewers of this site) to the bigger picture of
corporate power unbridled.
