The Vermont
Chapter of the Alliance@IBM / CWA Local 1701 issued a "Call for
Solidarity" to Vermont labor and community groups to join us in observance
of the International Day of Action on May 23 to join other international
IBM unions and works councils to protest plans to cut up to 13,000 IBM
jobs worldwide.
Here in
Vermont, we know all too well about the impacts IBM job cuts have on
employees, their families and our communities. A group of Vermont labor
and community activists gathered outside the entrance to the main access
road to the IBM Essex Junction plant to show their support for IBM
employees worldwide and to observe the moment of silence. In addition,
people wore black and blue ribbons and waved signs at passing traffic. The
groups represented were:
- ARA
(Alliance for Retired Americans)
- Alliance@IBM / CWA Local 1701
- IBEW
- AFGE
- Sheet Metal
Workers
- UE
- IUE
- AFT
