Biography
I joined IBM in 1968 as an instructor at Lodge Road and spent much of the next
15 years in Customer Education before joining the European PC Organization in
1983. From 1987 I worked on various advanced development projects (LPEX,
Object REXX, P2P, Lotus SameTime) - in Winchester, Hursley and Lotus Research
Group in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
My last 5 years in IBM were spent as a Java specialist, and since retiring I
have been a Java consultant for various small companies. I am currently a
postgraduate student at Birbeck College, University of London, pursuing an MA in
History of Film and Visual Media. Election Statement
Soon after I
retired in January 2000, I became aware of apparent irregularities in the
administration of the IBM UK Pension Plans. As a result I made a series of
formal complaints which are currently being considered by the Pensions
Ombudsman. I was also instrumental in setting up the Association of Members of
IBM UK Pension Plans (AMIPP).
You can read the details of my complaint on the Association's web-site
at
www.amipp.org.uk by following
the complaints link.
It should be
clear from my complaint that I believe that:
(a)
IBM's recent actions with respect to pensions constitute a breach of
trust
(b)
the Trustee has acquiesced where it should have protested
(c)
IBM's dominance of the Trustee should be curtailed
While I hope
that the Ombudsman will uphold my complaints, there needs to be a radical change
of heart by the Trustee. If elected I shall attempt to ensure that such a change
occurs.
